Sarapa meaning

The sarapeserape or jorongo is a long blanket -like shawl, often brightly colored and fringed at the ends, worn in Mexicoespecially by men. The spelling of the word sarape [1] or infrequently, zarape [2] is the accepted form in Mexico and in other Spanish-speaking countries.

The serape is not a typical garment for the Maya highland people, who wear different clothing in cold regions.

On a certain day while the cowboys of Braja were out pasturing their calves on the wooded banks of the Yamuna they happened to feel thirsty and not knowing that the water of the lake had been poisoned by Kaliya drank of its water which resulted in their instantaneous death.

On being apprised of their plight Krishna came to the spot and restored them to life. Thereafter Krishna goes down into the lake with the intention of sporting in its water. This enraged the hideous monster who forthwith came out of the depths of the lake in the company of his adherents and fell upon Krishna coiling Him up in their great hoods for Kaliya was a thousand-hooded Serpent and his brood were equally formidable. But more intriguingly, even figural art through its dissolution into purely visual elements served a non-representational function; human faces became an element of design, on a par with flowers and clouds and trees.

The surface is made so rich that the eye is arrested within it; it is practically barred from seeking any reference in the artwork to the real world outside.
